POST 2: Facing your Fears

Facing your fear
Everyone has something to fear. Even the bravest of men is scared at some point. But what separates the brave is their ability to confront their fear. Everyone has experienced being afraid. As time passed by, we learned that monsters inside our closet are simply clothes, that clowns are simply people in costumes and so on.

As I was making the blog "There is nothing to fear, but fear itself", I stumbled upon an  article that gives tips on overcoming your fear.  Then I thought to myself, why not make my own list on confronting fear.

1. Identify the source of your fear - By knowing where your fears come from, you might be able to find the causes of your fears. Identifying the problem is always the first step.

2. Be optimistic - Staying positive in our daily life helps us to face our fears and difficulties.  Having a never say no attitude would help you along the way.

3. Pray - Spiritual guidance can sometimes help us in our time of struggle. People can always turn to God in times of need.

 4. Self-Confidence - Trusting ourselves is very substantial especially when dealing with our fears. We know ourselves better than anyone else.

 5. Seek help / advice from others - Chances are, you are not the only one experiencing your fear. You can get some tips from people with the same fears. Hey, that's why you're reading this right? :D

6. Don't give up - Do not stop believing on yourself. Giving up is like saying you are too scared to break free from your fears that hinders your everyday life. Overcoming fears does not have an immediate effect. It normally takes time.

Do not stress yourself, it is very normal for us to face our fears and be afraid. You might not be able to overcome your  fear today, but it is perfectly alright because it takes time. Facing our fears is a process, so do not rush. Take small steps that would gradually lead to overcoming of fear.

POST 1: There is nothing to fear, but fear itself

Last night while i was thinking of a topic for the blog, i decided to play one game of League of Legends. It was during a decisive clash when the enemy Fiddlesticks cast fear on my Nami. I was unable to do anything for 3 seconds while their adr was throwing a flurry of attacks and our ADR (Attack Range Damage) was left unsupported. then I thought, what is fear? In the game, fear caused my character to flee in terror. But what do we really fear?
Fear

Since the beginning of time, man has feared what they do not understand. Men feared fire when they didnt know waht it was. it was only then when they learned what it can do that they were able to control and harness it for its uses.

I searched the web and found an article on about.com that lists the top 10 common phobias. below is the said list of phobias.

Top 10 common phobia:
acrophobia -fear of heights
claustrophobia - fear of enclosed spaces
nyctophobia - fear of the dark
ophidiophobia - fear of snakes
arachnophobia - fear of spiders
trypanophobia - fear of injections or medical needles
astraphobia - fear of thunder and lightning
nosophobia - fear of having a disease
mysophobia/germophobia - fear of germs
triskaidekaphobia - fear of the number 13

I think phobia is probably caused by a bad  experience or even psychological factors. It is embedded deep in our sub consciousness perhaps when faced with these situations, we sometimes panic or get paralyzed in fear. Having fear is sometime helpful to us. for example, we are motivated to the the right thing for fear of getting convicted. Fear helps keep us in line. from a survival point of view, fear helps us to survive. It helps us anticipate or even predict threats that could happen around us.

In the end, its up to you if you would like to control your fear or let fear control you.
